Wednesday’s fall at McConnells Mill is a stark reminder for visitors that the state park does come with dangers.
“There are falls here,” Assistant Park Manager Bryan Flores said in an interview Thursday. “We do have deaths here at the park from the conditions.”
Flores suggests being prepared and aware.
“There are slippery conditions here,” he said. “I would suggest a good pair of boots. Don’t push your luck.”
According to Flores, Wednesday’s fall was the second so far this season. Crews also had to rescue a group of hikers this year who got lost after dark.
Park visitors are urged to tell someone where they’re going if you plan to hike alone and remember your cell phone will likely not work in many areas of the park.
