The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls won the Single-A championship Saturday with a 56-33 victory over Lourdes Regional. Sam Breen led the Trojanettes with 27 points and 15 rebounds.
The Mars boys basketball team fell to Neuman Gorettis 99-66 Friday in the PIAA Triple-A championship in Hershey. John Costello led the Planets with 21 points. Robby Carmody added 20. Mars finished 21-7 overall.
Aliquippa won the boys Double-A championship to complete a perfect 30-0 season.
Taylor Alderdice lost to Philadelphia Roman Catholic 73-62 Saturday. They finished 28-2 overall.
The Grove City boys swimming team won the class Double-A state championship over the weekend. They Eagles were led by Austin Wilson who won the 100-backstroke. Knoch high school’s John Wilson finished fourth in the 100 breastroke.
Taylor Hockenberry of Mars won the girls Double-A 1-meter diving championship. Knoch’s Brooke Zukowski finished third in the 100 breastroke.
The Butler high school boys bowling team finished fourth overall at the Pennsylvania State Championships Saturday at North Versailles Bowl. The Golden Tornado qualified fourth overall after three standard games and six “Baker” format games, then fell to Hempfield 2-0 in the stepladder quarterfinals.
Junior Nick Huff shot the fourth highest series of the day with a 585 for three games. Senior Matt Wetzel had the sixth highest series of the day with a 572. Huff and freshman Jordan Reges tied for the third highest games of the day with 224.
Hempfield fell to Conrad Weiser in the semifinals. Penn Manor defeated Conrad Weiser to win the overall title.
The Butler girls finished 10th overall. Sophomore Nicole Nebel led the Golden Tornado with a 514 series. Sophomore Ashley McCue added a 506. McCue finished fifth overall at the state singles championships Friday after winning the Western Regional a week before.
Plum won the overall girls championship.
