The teen who allegedly went on a stabbing spree at a Westmoreland County High School pleaded guilty today.
Alex Hribal, now 20, was 16 years old when he used two eight-inch kitchen knives to stab his way through the halls of Franklin Regional High School in 2014 injuring 20 students and a security guard.
All victims survived but four students were critically injured, including one who required a liver transplant.
Hribal was initially offered a 30-60 year sentence by prosecutors last year but he turned it down. His trial was scheduled to start next month.
Following today’s guilty plea, it will take about three months before an actual sentence is handed down. Hribal has been in jail or a treatment facility since the attack.
Hribal’s defense team tried to have his case moved to juvenile court, but that was unsuccessful. They then tried to get a guilty but mentally ill plea, but that, too, was denied.
