The WPIAL Baseball championship games will be played over the next two days at Wild Things Park in Washington. Mars will meet Latrobe in the 5A title game tomorrow at 5:15pm. The 6A game between Pine-Richland and North Allegheny will follow at 8pm.
The Mars Boys Lacrosse team will meet Cathedral Prep today in the opening round of the 2A state tournament. The match begins at 6:30pm at North Allegheny high school.
The Pine-Richland Girls Lacrosse team will face Manheim Township today in the 3A first round at 3:30pm at Hempfield high school.
–Jordan Geist won the state titles in the shot-put and discus last week. His throw of 207-feet, six-inches in the discus Friday was a new state record. He becomes just the second athlete in state history to win six PIAA gold medals in individual events in his career.
–Freeport’s Robbie Reichenbaugh won the 2A 800-meter run.
–The Butler boys and girls set four new school records at the PIAA championships. Highlights included: Butler’s Noah Beveridge was fifth in the 3200-meter run, setting a new school record. Alexis Leech was fourth in the 3A 400-meter run. Jena Reinheimer was fifth in the discus. The 4×400 meter relay team of Maddie Tonini, Liz Simms, Shana Hoy and Alexis Leech placed fourth, but had the second-fastest time in WPIAL history. Simms also set a new school record in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run.
