High School Sports:
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic boys defeated Central Cambria 63-40 Saturday in the state basketball quarterfinals. The Trojans meet Lincoln Park tonight at Ambridge high school. Tip-off is 7pm.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls were ousted by Villa Maria 57-41.
The Butler boys basketball season came to a close Saturday in the PIAA 6-A quarterfinals. Pine-Richland defeated the Golden Tornado 64-58. The Rams improved to 27-1 overall and moved into the state semi-finals for just the second time in school history. They meet Carlisle Tuesday in Altoona. Butler finished 19-10 overall.
The Mars boys also were eliminated following a 68-43 loss to Meadville.
The North Allegheny girls remain alive following a 50-38 win over Penn Hills. The Tigers improved to 27-1 and meet Souderton tonight in Chambersburg.
The Butler girls bowling team finished 12th at the state championships near Lancaster Saturday. Nicole Nebel led the Butler bowlers with a 510 series and high game of 200.
Friday, Butler’s Mercedes Belch finished 13th overall in the state singles championships. Ashley McCue was 19th. Nick Huff finished 20th.
