The local high school football season kicked off with one team in the national spotlight. Pine-Richland defeated Wayne high of Ohio 41-0 last night in a game televised on ESPN. Rams quarterback Phil Jurkovec, who is a Notre Dame recruit, threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns. He ran for another 106 yards and three more scores. The Rams will host Mt. Lebanon this Friday.
The Butler and Knoch teams kick-off their seasons this Friday with games that can be heard on the Butler Radio Network. Butler will visit Penn Hills for their season-opener that can be heard on WBUT 1050am. Knoch will visit Blackhawk for a game that can be heard on WISR 680am. Both games begin at 7pm.

The Butler Girls Golf team defeated Fox Chapel Friday 179-198. Butler’s Hannah Folk led all golfers with a 39. Butler will face Pine-Richland Tuesday at Conley’s.
The Karns City Golf team won the third District-9 “mega-match” of the season last Thursday by one stroke over Moniteau, with Forest Area third. Hunter Gifford of Karns City was low medalist with a 41. Weston Kimmey of Moniteau had a 42.
