WPIAL Baseball Playoffs Monday:
Defending WPIAL champion Knoch defeated Yough 3-1 in the first round. Alex Stobert struck out ten and allowed just two hits to lead the Knights into the quarterfinal round. Knoch improved to 13-6 overall will face Montour (14-3) in the next round.

Section-5 champion Mars defeated Indiana 6-2 to improve their record to 13-5 overall, and will meet Hopewell (15-6) in the quarterfinals.
Freeport’s season came to a close last night following a 7-4 loss to Montour.
In Quad-A: Pine-Richland defeated Gateway 3-1 and will meet Canon-McMillan in the quarterfinals. North Allegheny was eliminated by Latrobe 1-0. Shaler was upset by Norwin 4-3.
Today in Single-A: CW North Catholic (13-6) will face Sewickley Academy (8-4) in a first round game at North Allegheny high school. First pitch is 4pm.
In District-9 regular season baseball: AC Valley defeated Forest Area 10-0.
In Softball: CW North Catholic defeated Bishop Canevin 13-6 and will meet Western Beaver in the WPIAL quarterfinals.
North Allegheny defeated Plum 7-3 and will meet Canon-McMillan in the Quad-A WPIALquarterfinals.
In District-9 regular season play: Moniteau defeated Venango Catholic 12-0. The Warriors improved to 18-1 overall.
AC Valley defeated Karns City 8-7 in 8-innings.
The Butler boys volleyball team will open the first round of the WPIAL Triple-A playoffs tonight at Peters Township. Game time is 7:30pm. Seneca Valley will Gatewaty also at 7:30pm. Pine-Richland is home to Upper St. Clair at 7pm.
Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reported that Pine-Richland quarterback Phil Jurkovev has committed to play college football at Notre Dame. Jurkovec is among the top-ranked quarterbacks in the nation, and is just a sophomore. He started for the Rams for the first time last season, and became just the second quarterback in WPIAL history to throw for more than 2,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.
