The Mars Boys Basketball team faced the #1-Quad-A team in the state Sunday in the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Classic at Montour high school. Mars fell to Taylor Allderdice 77-68. Mars came back from a 13-point deficit to take a late third quarter lead, but could not hold off Allderdice, who improved to 17-1. Mars is now 15-5.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League held its All-Star games Sunday in Beaver County. In the Triple-A game: Seneca Valley’s Alex Crilley was named the number one star after scoring three goals to lead his Team Gold to an 11-5 victory over Team Black. Crilley added two assists. Butler’s Zachary Schnur was one of the Team Gold’s goaltenders and stopped six of seven shots on goal during his appearance.
In the Single-A game: Freeport’s Robert Reichenbaugh scored the game-winner in overtime to lead Team Black over Team Gold 5-4.
The Butler high school wrestling team will open the preliminary round of the WPIAL Triple-A playoffs tonight when they host Montour. The match begins at 7pm.
The Butler High School Girl’s Track & Field team competed with 77 other schools at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association (TSTCA) Indoor meet Saturday at Edinboro University.
Leading the way for Butler was Senior Emily Horstman who set a new school record in the 200 meter dash. Horstman was 2nd in the event, with a new school record time of 26.68. She beat the record held by Paige Allen at 26.70. Allen is currently a Junior running track at Penn State Behrend. Horstman also anchored the 4×200 relay team to a 2nd place finish and placed 4th in the 60 meter dash. A 1st place finished was also recorded by the 4×800 relay team of Abby Boyle, Erin LeMay, Hannah Hays and Alexis Leech. The Distance Medley Relay team of Liz Simms, Maddie Tonini, Abby Boyle, Maggie Welty placed third.
