High School Sports:
Softball:
–Clearfield defeated Karns City 5-1 in the District-9 3A Softball championship Wednesday. The Gremlins had been the two-time defending champions. It was Clearfield’s first title since 2007.
–North Allegheny and Hempfield play this afternoon in the 6A Softball championship.
Baseball:
–Freeport defeated Keystone Oaks 1-0 in the 3A consolation game. Jarrett Heilman allowed just three hits, striking out eight batters. Freeport improved to 15-6 this season. Heilman is 9-1. The victory sends the Yellow Jackets to the PIAA playoffs for the first time since 1998. Freeport will meet District-10 champion Franklin Monday.
–The Moniteau baseball team will face Seton-LaSalle in the PIAA First Round, after the Rebels defeated Serra Catholic 11-2 in the WPIAL 2A championship Wednesday. It is the first title for Seton-LaSalle since 1995.
–In the 4A championship, Beaver defeated Blackhawk 13-2.
–The WPIAL 6A championship game between Pine-Richland and Penn-Trafford was postponed Wednesday and rescheduled for 5pm tonight at the Washington Wild Things Park.
The Mars and Pine-Richland Boys Lacrosse state playoff games were washed out again Wednesday. Mars will face Trinity from District-3 today at 3pm. The match will be played at Shady Side Academy.
Pine-Richland and Erie McDowell will play at 5pm at Mars high school.
