For the second time this season, the Slippery Rock University baseball team has swept the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division weekly awards as Wyatt Daugherty was named the division’s Pitcher of the Week and Joe Campagna was tabbed the Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Monday’s honor marks the second time this season that Campagna has been named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week. The award is Daugherty’s first such honor.
Daugherty, a Butler grad, was instrumental in two of The Rock’s four wins last week. In two appearances, the senior hurler went 1-0 with one save, a perfect 0.00 ERA, no walks, seven strikeouts and just one extra-base hit allowed. Daugherty, who ranks fifth in PSAC history in career saves, began the week by coming out of the SRU bullpen to throw three scoreless innings in SRU’s 5-2 victory against Seton Hill on April 2. He then took the mound for his third collegiate start on April 7 against Clarion and proceeded to produce a six-strikeout, compete-game shutout.
Daugherty has made 10 appearances for The Rock this season, going 3-2 with four saves, a 1.78 ERA, 31 strikeouts and a .261 batting average against over 30.1 innings.
Campagna batted .517 for the week with three home runs.
