The Seneca Valley and Freeport Girls Volleyball teams won WPIAL championships Saturday at Baldwin high school. In 4-A: the Seneca Valley Girls swept Baldwin 3-0 in (games of 27-25, 25-22, 25-21) in to win their second WPIAL title, and first in five years. The Raiders will meet Exeter Township in the PIAA first round Tuesday at Hempfield Area high school. The match will begin at 7:30pm.
The Freeport Girls defended their WPIAL 2-A title with a 3-1 victory over Beaver. (Games of 26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 25-20). The Yellow Jackets will get North East in the PIAA first round tomorrow at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic high school at 7:30pm.
The Knoch Girls defeated South Fayette 3-0 in the WPIAL 3-A consolation game, and will join Seneca Valley and Freeport in the PIAA playoffs. The Knights will meet Fort LeBoeuf Tuesday at Cochranton high school at 7:30pm.
The AC Valley Girls Volleyball team has also have reached the PIAA tournament. They will meet Maplewood at Meadville high school tomorrow at 6pm.
At the PIAA Cross Country Championships in Hershey Saturday, the Seneca Valley Boys finished fourth overall in the 3-A team event. Noah Beveridge of Butler finished fifth overall individually. Beveridge was just 26 seconds behind the state champion.
Knoch’s Max Freyermuth finished 9th overall in 2-A. He was 46 seconds behind the state champion.
The Mars Boys Soccer team fell to 1-0 to Chartiers Valley in the WPIAL 3-A championship Saturday. The Planets open the PIAA first round against Hollidaysburg tomorrow night at Altoona’s Mansion Park Stadium at 7:30pm.
The Seneca Valley Boys will begin the 4-A playoffs tomorrow against State College. The game will be played at Hollidaysburg high school at 7:30pm.
North Allegheny and Pine-Richland will meet at Mars high school Tuesday at 7:30pm.
The District-9 champion Karns City Boys will face Harbor Creek Tuesday in a 2-A first round match-up. The game begins at 6pm at Clarion University.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Boys will meet Iroquios in Erie tomorrow at 7pm in a Single-A first round game.
In the Girls Soccer PIAA first round Tuesday: District-9 champion Karns City will play Freeport at Clarion University at 8pm.
High School Football playoffs Friday:
All of the teams from the 6-A Northern Seven Conference who made the WPIAL playoffs won. Seneca Valley defeated Mt. Lebanon 49-43 and will face North Allegheny in the semi-finals Friday. North Allegheny defeated
Pine-Richland defeated Bethel Park 35-32 and will meet top seeded Central Catholic this week. Central Catholic defeated Norwin 48-0.
In 2-A: Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic defeated Burgettstown 14-7. The Trojans will meet Neshannock Friday. Neshannock defeated Serra Catholic 60-21.
In 5-A: Gateway eliminated Armstrong 38-30. WPIAL leading rusher, Armstrong’s Zane Dudek was injured in the first quarter on his first carry. Dudek ends his season with 2,949 yards, a WPIAL record. He finished with 6,977 yards in his career, third-best in WPIAL history.
In 4-A: Mars lost to Ringgold 42-31.
In District-9 2-A: Kane eliminated Moniteau 55-7.
Perry defeated St. Mary’s 38-27 in a District 8-9 semifinal and will meet top-seeded Karns City Thursday at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium.
In District-10: Grove City defeated Fort LeBoeuf 27-23 Saturday afternoon. Hickory eliminated Slippery Rock 33-10.
