High School Sports:
WPIAL Baseball Playoffs:
–Shaler defeated Mars 8-2 in the 5A semifinals. The Planets still have a shot to get to the state tournament. They will face Franklin Regional in the WPIAL consolation game next week.
–Steel Valley defeated Freeport 5-3 in the 3A semifinals. The Yellow Jackets will meet Keystone Oaks in the WPIAL consolation game.
–Pine-Richland shutout Bethel Park 6-0 in the 6A semifinals. The Rams will meet Penn-Trafford in the WPIAL championship game next week. Penn-Trafford defeated North Allegheny 7-2 Wednesday in the other 6A
semifinal. N.A. and Bethel Park will play in the consolation game.
–Moniteau and Karns City play at Pullman Park tonight in the District-9 semifinals. Game time is 6pm.
WPIAL Softball Playoffs:
–Elizabeth Forward eliminated Knoch 4-0 in the 4A semifinals Wednesday. The Knights will meet Thomas Jefferson next Tuesday in the WPIAL consolation game. The winner will go to the state tournament.
–Hempfield defeated Seneca Valley 3-0 in nine innings in the 6A semifinals.
–North Allegheny defeated Norwin 8-4 and will play Hempfield in the championship game next week.
