High School Sports Scores from Wednesday:
WPIAL Baseball semi-finals:
5A: The Mars Planets have reached their first-ever WPIAL championship game after defeating West Allegheny 4-1 yesterday. Mars will meet Latrobe who defeated Chartiers Valley 2-1. The game will be played next week at Wild Things Park in Washington.
6A: Section foes Pine-Richland and North Allegheny will meet for the WPIAL championship after winning their semi-final games Wednesday. Pine-Richland defeated Mt. Lebanon 6-1 and North Allegheny defeated Canon-McMillan 5-3. The two teams will meet next Tuesday or Wednesday at Wild Things Park in Washington.
Deer Lakes lost in the 4A semi-finals to Blackhawk 7-3.
District-9 playoffs: Karns City defeated Moniteau 9-2. Tyler Yough led the Gremlins with a triple, double, two runs scored and an RBI. Cullen Williams drove in three, and winning pitcher Eric Dodd had two hits while tossing a complete-game. Karns City will meet Chestnut Ridge in Punxsatawney next Thursday at 4:30pm in the District 5/9 championship game.
District-9 Softball semi-finals: Moniteau defeated Redbank Valley 10-0 in five innings. The victory was the Warriors 57th in a row against a District-9 opponent. Kennedy DeMatteis allowed two hits and struck out eight over the five shut-out innings. The Warriors meet Cranberry in the D-9 title game next Wednesday at Clarion-Limestone high school.
Boys Volleyball:
–North Allegheny won the 3A championship with a 3-0 sweep of Penn-Trafford.
–Seneca Valley fell to Bethel Park 3-2 in the consolation match.
–Beaver County Christian swept Deer Lakes 3-0 in the 2A championship match.
