WPIAL Football playoffs begin tonight
In 6-A:
–Seneca Valley is the #6-seed and will travel to #3-seed Mt. Lebanon.
–Central Catholic is the top seed and will host #8-seed Norwin.
–North Allegheny is the #2-seed and host #7-seeded Hempfield.
–#5-Pine-Richland will travel to face #4-seed Bethel Park.
In 5-A: #2-seeded Armstrong (9-1) will host #7- Gateway (6-4)
In 4-A: #3-seed Mars (8-2) will host #6-seed Ringgold Rams (7-2)
In Single-A: #6 Burgettstown Blue Devils (4-5) vs #11 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Trojans (5-4)
All of the WPIAL first round games kick-off at 7:30pm.and can be heard at msasports.net
In District-9 tonight: Moniteau (3-6) will travel to Kane (10-0) at 7pm.
In District-10 this weekend:
–Slippery Rock (4-6) will meet Hickory (9-0) Saturday. The game will be played at Greenville high school.
–Grove City will face Fort LeBoeuf at Meadville high school. Kick-off for both games willl be 2pm.
The Butler Midget Football Junior Varsity will meet Seneca Valley in the United Football League Super Bowl Saturday. Kick-off is 3pm at Art Bernardi Stadium.
College Football Saturday:
–Penn State will host Iowa for a 7:30pm kick-off. Pre-game on WBUT1050am is 6pm.
–Slippery Rock will host Seton Hill. Kick-off is 3pm. Pre-game begins at 2:30pm on The Rock Station 97.7fm and at 977rocks.com
Slippery Rock University standout defensive end Marcus Martin (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin) has been named to Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Information Directors of America and will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot for the second year in a row. Martin is second on The Rock roster in total tackles with 51. He leads the squad with 15.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. In addition to performance on the field, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA to be considered for recognition.
–Pitt will visit Miami. Kick-off is 12:30pm
–Clarion is hosting Gannon – 12pm
–Westminster is home to Case Western Reserve – 1p
–Grove City is on the road to Bethany-1:30pm
–Thomas More at Thiel – 1p
–Cal is hosting Edinboro – 1pm. A Cal victory sends them to the PSAC Championship next week against Kutztown.
