High School Sports:
WPIAL Football Playoffs:
–Pine-Richland will host North Allegheny tonight in the 6A semifinals. Kick-off is 7pm. Both enter the game with one loss this season.
–Central Catholic will meet Mt. Lebanon at Fox Chapel high school in the other 6A semifinal.
District-9 Playoffs:
–Union/AC Valley will meet Redbank Valley at Clarion University in the District-9 1A semifinals tonight at 7pm. Smethport and Coudersport meet in the other 1A semifinal.
–Karns City will face Ridgway Saturday in Dubois at 1pm in the 2A semifinals. Clarion and Kane meet in the other 2A semifinal.
–Grove City will face Hickory in the District-10 3A semifinals tomorrow. The game will be played at Wilmington high school beginning at 1pm. Grove City defeated Mercyhurst Prep 28-17 last week. Hickory shutout North East 56-0. Sharon and Harbor Creek meet in the other semifinal.
PIAA Girls Volleyball Quarterfinals:
3A:
–Knoch will meet Franklin Regional at Shaler high school Saturday at 1:30pm.
2A:
–Freeport will face Beaver at Shaler high school beginning at noon.
–North Catholic and Bald Eagle will meet at Forest Hills high school Saturday at noon.
4A:
–North Allegheny and State College play at Forest Hills beginning at 1:30pm.
PIAA Girls Soccer Quarterfinals:
3A:
–Mars will face West Allegheny at Chartiers Valley high school Saturday at 2pm.
–North Catholic and Bald Eagle will meet at Forest Hills high school Saturday at 2pm.
4A:
–North Allegheny and Boyertown will play in Mechanicsburg Saturday at 2pm.
The PIAA released classification enrollment parameters for all sports Thursday for the next two school years. It will see several schools change classification in football. Mars will from from 5A football to 4A. Pine-Richland will drop from 6A to 5A. The Rams have won two of the past three WPIAL 6A championships.
In basketball, North Catholic will move up to 4A from 3A.
