PIAA Basketball playoffs:
The Mars boys have reached the Triple-A second round and will meet Erie Strong Vincent Tuesday at Slippery Rock University’s Morrow Field House. Tip-off is 7:30pm. The Planets defeated Clearfield 68-60 Friday night.
The Karns City girls will North Star Tuesday at IUP in the Double-A girls second round. Tip-off is 6pm. The Gremlins defeated Carlynton 59-37 Friday night. LeeAnn Gibson netted 26 points.
Moniteau fell to OLSH 44-30.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic boys and girls have advanced to the second round. The boys will meet Bishop Carroll Tuesday at Hempfield high school. Tip-off is 6pm. The girls will face Keystone Wednesday at IUP.
Quad-A boys: Pine-Richland will meet Taylor Allderdice Wednesday at Bethel Park high school. Pine-Richland is the WPIAL champion, while Allderdice is the state’s top-ranked team. The Rams defeated Bethel Park 81-57 Saturday. Allderdice eliminated Penn Hills 66-50.
North Hills, the WPIAL runner-up will meet Carlisle Wednesday in Altoona. North Hills won their first state playoff game over the weekend with a 70-60 win over Latrobe.
The Mars girls were knocked out in the first round following a 50-45 loss in overtime to Mercyhurst Prep.
PIHL high school hockey playoffs tonight: Mars and Armstrong face-off in the Double-A semi-finals. The game will be played on Neville Island at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Complex at 8:15pm.
Knoch high school’s Brooke Zukowski won the WPIAL title Saturday in the 100-breastroke. She topped teammate Abby Jones who was the runner-up. Both advance to the PIAA championships March 18th and 19th at Bucknell University.
Seneca Valley wrestler Louis Newell won the 106-pound WPIAL championship over the weekend. He defeated Job Chishko of Penn-Trafford 6-4 to win the title, and will move on to the state championships this weekend in Hershey.
