The Mars boys basketball team defeated Laurel Highlands 83-35 last night in the WPIAL Triple-A first round. Robbie Carmody scored 30 points for the Planets. Mars will meet Steel Valley Friday in the quarterfinals.
Tonight: the Mars (17-5) girls will meet Derry (13-9) in a first round playoff game at Fox Chapel high school. Tip-off is 6:30pm.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls, who are the top seed in Single-A at 20-2 overall, will play 6-15 Aliquippa tonight at Ambridge high school. Tip-off is also 6:30pm.
Karns City will meet Brockway tonight in the District 9 playoffs. Tip-off is 7:30pm at Clarion high school.
Grove City defeated Harborcreek 55-32.
In non-section wrestling: Seneca Valley defeated Hampton 63-9.
The Butler boys bowlers finished sixth out of 18 teams Wednesday in the WPIBL Championships at Noble Manor Lanes in Robinson. Hunter Lefever led Butler with a 517 series with a high game of 201. Shawn Marcellus added a 203. Hempfield defeated Moon 3-2 in the “Baker” best of three championship round. Butler missed the top three to reach the “Baker” round by 77 pins.
The Butler girls bowlers will compete in the WPIBL Championships today at Paradise Island Bowl on Neville Island.
