High school sports:
–Freeport junior Jarrett Heilman pitcher has earned a spot on the Big 26 Baseball Classic July 25th through 28th in Harrisburg. Heilman was one of two players from the WPIAL who earned the roster spots for the four-day tryout-based all-star series. The event features players who are sophomores and juniors this year. College coaches and scouts have been invited to attend the events and workouts in July.
PIAA Baseball playoffs today:
–California and West Middlesex meet in the 1A quarterfinals at 1:30pm at Historic Pullman Park.
–New Castle and Beaver play at Pullman at 4pm in the 4A quarterfinals.
–Pine-Richland and North Allegheny meet in the 6A quarterfinals at Slippery Rock University tonight at 6:30pm.
