The annual mail carriers’ effort to help end hunger will happen again on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
Pam Donato, Director of Community Services for the National Association of Letter Carriers, spoke with our radio station and said that all community members need to do is leave nonperishable items in a bag by their mailbox. Mail carriers will then pick up the bags when they deliver the mail.
This is the 25th year of the Stamp Out Hunger effort. Last year, nationally the drive collected a record 80 million pounds of nonperishable food.
Donato says here in Pennsylvania, we have a great recording of helping. She says different food banks and food pantries can be stocked for up to 3-6 months just on this one drive.
