The Butler Area School District is spending almost $20,000 to replace a control module for the heating system that controls two schools downtown.
The school board approved a motion Monday night that will award replacement of the computer control systems at Emily Brittain and Broad Street elementary schools to Quantum Controls Group for just over $19,000.
A system installed in 2002 was configured in a way that allowed both schools to be controlled by the single computer system. When that hard drive crashed last week and it was determined that the software was no longer supported, facility maintenance staff found a couple bids and recommended the best choice.
Sale of the former Broad Street School to The ARC of Butler County is pending but a hearing date has not yet been set. The money to pay for this unexpected expense will come from the district’s general fund.
