The Pittsburgh Pirates overcame a 6-1 deficit to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 in 11-innings Sunday. Josh Harrison hit a walk-off single to win the game. Pirate starter Francisco Liriano stuggled through 2-1/3rd innings, allowing five runs on seven hits. After Joe Blanton allowed one run in relief of Liriano, the bullpen tossed seven shut-out innings. Pedro Alvarez hit his 23rd home run of the season, and Travis Snider drove in two runs. The Bucs are off today and will host a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs beginning with a day-night doubleheader Tuesday. Gerrit Cole will start the first game at 1:35pm. J.A. Happ will be the starter of the second game that begins at 7:05pm.
Sunday’s victory put the Pirates 30-games over .500 at 86-56. The Pirates are 2-1/2 games behind first-place St. Louis and are four games in front of the Cubs.
