A Harmony woman pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to selling ‘imitation’ Parmesan and Romano cheeses through a Slippery Rock-based cheese company that she ran.
Michelle Myrter, 44, was released on her own recognizance. She could face probation time and a hefty fine.
Federal prosecutors say Castle Cheese, where Myrter was a manager, was manufacturing Market Pantry, Always Save and Best Choice Parmesan cheese with no actual parmesan cheese.
The government found out about the scam through an employee whistleblower.
Castle Cheese is currently in bankruptcy.
