The New Year will kick off a few hours early in Harmony tonight.
Thousands are expected for te 8th annual Silvester celebration that will include authentic German food, lots of local shopping and even a Christmas Tree tossing contest.
“Silvester is the German New Year and it is coordinated with the German time,” Dennis McCurdy, President of the Harmony Business Association, told our newsroom. “So when you come to town, you can expect to see the ball drop and fireworks at 6 p.m.”
The day’s events will also include a 5K run and 1-Mile Fun Run, kicking off at 3:30 p.m. in the town diamond to benefit park maintenance and improvements.
“Every year parks and recreation holds a big run and they will have a minimum, depending on the weather, 400-600 participants,” McCurdy said.
The Harmony Museum will also have self-guided museum tours, a pork and sauerkraut dinner and a comedic short film.
The annual Polar Plunge into the Connoquenessing Creek will take place New Year’s Day (Friday) and benefit the Harmony-Zelienople Fire Department.
