A group of people took to Main Street in Butler late Friday morning to call attention to several issues which they believe are caused by Marcellus shale fracking and gas drilling, pipelines and the manufacturing of nuclear weapons.
The group stood outside the PNC Bank branch in an effort to call attention to what they say is the banking industry’s complicity in “death, theft and climate change” because the bank invests in industries that lay pipelines, frack wells and manufacture nuclear weapons.
The group held signs and urged PNC account holders to close their accounts and demand that the bank end their financing to those industries. They suggested people move their money to credit unions.
“PNC, by investing in pipeline companies and nuclear weapons manufacturers, has aligned with the forces of evil. We are calling on PNC account holders to close their accounts and demand that they end their relationship with these planet killing corporations. We’d like to recommend a local bank but too many of them are financing similar, community destroying, ventures,” Michael Bagdes-Canning of the Green Party of Butler County and Marcellus Outreach Butler said.
The one-hour long rally was organized in part by the group Marcellus Outreach Butler and the Green Party of Butler and Venango.
The Main Street PNC branch didn’t comment on the rally and referred all questions to corporate.
