Several local schools in the Butler Area School District have been chosen to receive grants to improve access to nutritious fruits and vegetables.
McQuistion Elementary School will receive nearly $35,000, Emily Brittain Elementary School has been awarded nearly $17,000, and Broad Street Elementary School will collect nearly $15,000.
This money is being dispersed through the USDA’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program with priority given to schools with the highest rates of students eligible for free and reduced price meals.
About $7 million in grants have been awarded to 266 elementary schools across Pennsylvania through this program.
