A couple of local groups will receive funding though statewide grants.
The Butler County District Attorney’s Office has been approved for a nearly $900,000 Violence Intervention and Prevention grant through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. This money will be used to support the Butler County Gun Investigation Program with upgrading equipment and hiring staff for the county’s Emergency Services Unit team.
The Kids Innovation Playground in Slippery Rock has been selected for a just over $13,000 Building Opportunity through Out-of-School, or BOOST, initiative grant. It will go toward creating a LEGO Robotics team of eight 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who will meet weekly before participating in a competition in Pittsburgh this year and next. The Kids Innovation Playground started as a way to bring additional STEAM opportunities to children in rural areas.
