More of the anti-overdose drug Naloxone will be available over the next couple of years.
Through a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Butler County will receive 400 Naloxone kits in three shipments over the next two years. Each kit contains two nasal doses of the drug, which can reverse the effects of a drug overdose. Each kit costs $75, meaning the grant is for $30,000.
The county already has a program in place to provide Naloxone to first responders. These kits will be given to others who could potentially come in contact with someone who has overdosed- including constables, those in charge of after-school programs, librarians and public transit drivers, according to deputy court administration Tom Holman. Any group who wishes to have Naloxone on-hand can contact Mark Pfeffer at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
