Between Democrat Josh Shapiro and the nine Republican candidates that ran in the primary, a combined $100.2 million was spent to become the next governor of Pennsylvania.
It shattered the previous record, which was $83 million in 2014. That year, current Governor Tom Wolf faced off against incumbent Republican Tom Corbett.
