Governor Tom Wolf vetoed legislation Monday involving the release of police officers’ names in shootings.
The governor said that while he is deeply concerned for the safety of the state’s police officers, government works best when trust and openness exists between citizens and their government.
The bill would have strictly limited public officials from immediately releasing the names of officers involved in shootings. Current law allows local officials to determine when to identify an officer who has fired their weapon or used force.
