Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced yesterday that he is now in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.
This comes after PA Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman toured 67 county’s gauging public opinion.
Wolf said on the tour, the report showed 68 percent of people on the tour were in favor of legalizing marijuana, and 82 percent of people who participated either online or via phone were supportive of legalization.
The Governor is now calling for three actions. First, he would like lawmakers to put a bill on his desk decriminalizing non-violent and small cannabis-related offenses. Second, Wolf would like to see the criminal records of people previously convicted of marijuana-related crimes expunged. Third, he is asking for serious debate on marijuana legalization in the state legislature.
Fetterman did see some consensus.
“The decriminalization of it is not even controversial, in fact it was a unanimous sentiment expressed no matter what county I was in,” Fetterman said.
A press release from the House Republican Leadership team stated “our caucus has no plans or interest in legalizing recreational marijuana”.
