Jeff Gordon will continue to substitute for Dale Earnhardt Junior, with Hendrick Motorsports announcing Tuesday that the four-time champion will drive this coming weekend at Watkins Glen International and again on August 20th at Bristol. Earnhardt has not been cleared by doctors to compete in at least the next two Sprint Cup Series races as he continues to recover from a concussion. He underwent further evaluation Tuesday in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program, saying earlier this week that he continues to experience issues with balance and gaze stabilization. Earnhardt has missed the last three races. There’s a one-week break in the schedule following this Sunday’s race at The Glen, where Gordon will make his eight hundredth career start.
