Butler County District Attorney Rich Goldinger is calling attention to recent testimony about the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump that he says was “misstated”.
In a statement Wednesday, Goldinger commented on the testimony Tuesday about members of the Butler County Emergency Services Unit team leaving their post at the American Glass Research property.
He said that while posted to a building in the AGR complex 20 minutes before the shooting, members of the Butler County and Beaver County ESU teams observed a suspicious person later identified as the shooter and took a picture of him. This was sent to other members as well as to the command center for the Secret Service and the State Police.
Goldinger went on to say the suspicious person “ran off, carrying a backpack” and one “officer ran out of the building, attempting to keep eyes” on him. A second officer remained in the building but the first officer could not locate the person before both heard shots fired. Although one officer left the building briefly, he only did so in pursuit of the suspicious person and then he returned. Goldinger says the post was never vacant and neither officer could see the shooter on the other building.
He also added that all ESU officers volunteered to assist Secret Service and they “performed the duties to which they were assigned”.
Goldinger stated that due to the ongoing investigation, he would have no further comment on the matter.
