A counselor at a Zelienople facility for children with behavioral health issues was fired after police say the man was found overdosing in a children’s restroom.
Police say they found 37-year-old Paul Ream Jr. of Cranberry face down in a bathroom at Glade Run Lutheran Services with a hypodermic needle in his hand and an empty stamp bag on the floor. Zelienople Police said Ream was on night duty at the time, and supposed to be keeping watch over five residents under the age of 18.
According to a criminal complaint, Ream admitted to doing three bags of heroin.
Glade Run said the agency has zero tolerance for such activity and that Ream was terminated.
Police say because of a state law, they can’t file drug charges against Ream. He has instead been charged with five counts of child endangerment.
