Walgreens is buying Rite Aid in a $17 billion deal.
The move will bind together the nation’s second and third largest pharmacy chains that combined have nearly 13,000 U.S. stores. That would catapult the merged company above CVS, which has about 8,000 stores.
According to reports, Rite Aid stores would keep their names initially, but Walgreens plans to create “a fully harmonized portfolio of stores” over time.
There are several Rite Aid stores in Butler County- including a brand new location on Main Street in downtown Butler, a location inside the Clearview Mall and in the Point Plaza Shopping Center in Butler Township.
