The Butler Girl’s Track & Field won the 52nd Annual Butler Invitational meet on Friday. Butler outlasted 58 teams to win the meet. Avonworth/Northgate finished in second while Penn Hills won the boy’s meet.
Knoch high school’s Jordan Geist broke his own meet record with a throw of 69-feet 7-1/2 inches in the shotput, topping the record he set last year by more than three feet. He set another meet record in the discus with a throw of 182 feet 10-inches.
The 1600 meter relay team from Butler of Odile Enslen, Shana Hoy, Liz Simms and Alexis Leech clinched the victory with a first place finish in the last event of the day. Alexis Leech was key in the meet as the anchor of the 1600 relay and also contributed a second place finish in the 400 at 57.53 and a fourth place in the 200. Freshman Liz Simms placed second in the 800 while Taylor Weaver had a great day in the pole vault with a vault of 10’6″ that earned her a 3rd place finish.
Butler battles Seneca Valley and North Hills at 3:45 PM Tuesday at the Butler High Stadium. The winner of the Butler Vs Seneca Valley will be the WPIAL Class AAA Section 3 champion.
Moniteau’s Maura Kimmel took home girls’ MVP honors by winning both the discus and the shot put in the Brookville Invitational Saturday. She set the meet record in the discus with a toss of 139 feet, 3 inches, which was nearly nine feet longer than the previous mark, and also tossed the shot put 42 feet, 3 ½ inches. Kimmel also won both events at the Butler Invitational Friday, with throws even longer than what she tossed in Brookville.
