If you’ve traveled Route 228 West in the past couple of months, it’s quite obvious that construction is well underway.
Butler County’s Chief of Economic Development and Planning Mark Gordon says the project is on schedule to beat the timeline by a considerable margin.
The entire Gateway 228 project spanning from Freedom Road to Route 8 is expected to cost $277 million total. However, Gordon says that the county and local municipalities have done a great job at leveraging funds.
“We got $45 million of federal money associated with two BUILD awards,” Gordon said. “Subsequent to that, every other dollar beyond our committed investment, we were able to leverage additional state dollars.”
Gordon said yesterday, Adams and Middlesex Townships have put financial plans in place to pay their portion of funding over the span of multiple years.
Initial timelines had the Freedom Road project being completed by 2024 and the Ball’s Bend area done by 2026. Gordon says the project is expected to beat those deadlines.
Gordon says temporary pavement is currently being laid in the Ball’s Bend area of Route 228.
