Gas prices have shot up both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole over the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, jumped by 13 cents over the past week to reach $3.59 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole increased by 12 cents during that same time to reach $3.60. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in DuBois at $3.51, while the most expensive is $3.70 in Oil City.
The average national gas price rose by 8 cents over the past week to reach $3.44 which is the highest since 2014. According to AAA, gasoline demand fell and gas stocks increased but the price of crude oil is skyrocketing as a result of the uncertainty surrounding a conflict between Russia and Ukraine as well as the demand for heating oil.
