Gas prices in western Pennsylvania are shooting up just as many counties move into the yellow phase of reopening and many travelers prepare for Memorial Day activities.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve in Butler, as of Monday, is $2.26 per gallon which is an increase of 20 cents compared to last week.
Prices rose by 16 cents across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week, to bring the regional average price also to $2.26 per gallon. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $2.18 per gallon, while the most expensive is $2.30 in Sharon.
The average national gas price rose by three cents this week to $1.87 which is still a dollar cheaper per gallon than it was this date last year. As demand for gasoline increases with more areas reopening, AAA expects pump prices to keep climbing in the coming weeks.
