Local gas prices have continued to increase over the past week, according to AAA’s weekly gas price report.
The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler this week is $2.98, which is an increase of 12 cents over last week.
Prices are also averaging $2.98 per gallon for western Pennsylvania as a whole, with a high of $3.09 in Brookville and a low of $2.84 in Altoona, according to AAA.
The national price of gas jumped another four cents in the past week to $2.79, which comes out to an eight cent increase since the beginning of the month.
Although Hurricane Barry temporarily halted 60% of all crude oil production in the Gulf of Mexico when it made landfall in Louisiana last week, crude production is expected to resume with little impact on national gas prices.
