After a big jump last week, gas prices have continued to rise both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole over the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by a nickel over the past week to reach at $4.42 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by four cents during that same time to arrive at $4.39. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Castle at $4.30, while the most expensive is $4.47 in Altoona.
The average national gas price increased by 13 cents over the past week to reach $4.32 which is just under the record high set in March. According to AAA, the main factor driving prices at the pump remains the surging cost of crude oil even as demand for gas increased slightly.
