Gas prices have continued to hit new record highs this week both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by 15 cents over the past week to reach at $4.86 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole also rose by 15 cents during that same time to arrive at $4.85. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in New Kensington at $4.79, while the most expensive is $4.95 in Mercer.
The average national gas price increased by a quarter over the past week to reach $4.86 which is over $1.80 more than one year ago. According to AAA, high prices at the pump continue to be driven by increased demand over the Memorial Day weekend as well as by the nearly $120 price for a barrel of crude oil.
