Gas prices declined slightly both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole this week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, dropped by three cents over the past week to settle at $5.00 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole also dropped by three cents during that same time to arrive at $4.98. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Altoona at $4.91, while the most expensive is $5.04 in Mercer.
The average national gas price decreased by seven cents over the past week to reach $4.89 which is still 30 cents more than a month ago. According to AAA, the small decline at the pump was caused by another drop in the price for a barrel of crude oil but demand for gas is expected to increase through Independence Day weekend.
