Pennsylvania Game Commission officials say they are seeing an uptick in chronic wasting disease, or CWD, in the deer population.
With the latest deer season coming to a close, the game commission unveiled their surveillance numbers.
They tested for the disease in over 11,000 deer, and found that 257 had CWD. While that only accounts for a little more than 2 percent of the sampled deer, that number was near zero less than 10 years ago.
A majority of the cases were found in south central Pennsylvania.
CWD is a fatal neurological disease that impacts white-tailed deer and elk.
