The penalties for killing golden and bald eagles in Pennsylvania just got stiffer.
The PA Game Commission board voted Tuesday to increase the replacement cost for killing the eagles to $2,500…up from $200. That amount is in addition to fines.
Officials say the substantial increase emphasizes that even the golden and bald eagles are recovered in Pennsylvania, meaning they’re no longer classified as a state-threatened species, they still require further protection.
Both golden and bald eagles remain protected by federal law as well.
