A new business has opened up inside a long vacant local building, and the owner is aiming to deliver a different experience.
Spencer Geibel is the owner and funeral director of the Spencer D. Geibel Funeral Home and Cremation Services located on New Castle Road in Butler Township, in front of the PA State Police Barracks.
“I wanted something a little more modern and a lot more simple,” Geibel said in an interview with Butler Radio on Tuesday.
Before Geibel purchased the building last year, it was an auto parts and car audio store. This new funeral home is not affiliated with the Geibel Funeral Home on East Cunningham Street in the city of Butler.
Geibel says the funeral industry is changing as society changes, with cremation becoming a more common choice and visitations less prolonged.
“I believe I’m following what customers want,” he said. “The changes has happened slowly, but it’s been rapid also.”
He said folks in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and younger, are more for a simple service and a shorter viewing.
Geibel says his price structure is also different from other local options, including viewings, visitations and funerals starting at $3,000 and cremations starting at $1,500.
