About an hour after Slippery Rock firefighters left the fire scene near Rock Falls Park on Friday morning, they were called to another house fire.
This blaze started about 10:30 a.m. on Route 173 (Slippery Rock Road) just over the Butler County line in Liberty Township, Mercer County. The house was a one-story home with a basement.
“He was cleaning up a fuel spill in the garage. He went to throw the rag into the wood burner and it ignited the whole basement on fire,” Slippery Rock Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Hanchosky said.
The homeowner was startled but able to get out unharmed.
Hanchosky estimated damage to be around $250,000. The home is not livable.
