All Farm Service Agency offices will reopen later this week in order to provide administrative services to farmers and ranchers even as the federal government partial shutdown continues to drag on.
The United States Department of Agriculture made the announcement that FSA offices across the country- including the one in Butler on Evans City Road- will reopen from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Thursday.
Select FSA offices have been open since last Thursday to provide limited services for existing loans and tax documents. Deadlines to apply for some programs have been extended and a longer list of transactions will be able to be accommodated starting on Thursday.
Nearly 10,000 FSA employees will be temporarily recalled every weekday through Feb. 8 under this plan, then three days a week beyond that if the shutdown continues. President Trump has signed legislation that guarantees employees will receive all back-pay missed.
