First responders searched both banks of the Allegheny River in Freeport overnight after several disturbing reports from residents.
Several residents told our news partners at WPXI-TV that they heard screams for help loud enough to be heard in their homes with the TV on. One witness called the screams “gut-wrenching.” Some witnesses say they also heard a splash.
Firefighters, police and river rescue personnel searched for hours with boats and a helicopter but found nothing.
The search was called off. It’s unclear whether it will resume Monday.
