Temperatures are expected to remain in the teens for a high today, before plummeting below zero during the overnight.
And with the colder temperatures on the way, Pennsylvania American Water is suggesting residents take simple steps to prevent plumbing from freezing.
The company recently released a new Winter Tips video on Youtube to help customers prevent frozen pipes which could result in costly household damages since property owners are responsible for maintenance of any in-home piping.
The company advises customers to check with a neighbor on the status of their service if they suspect they may have frozen pipes. If the neighbors have water, then pipes may be frozen or there may a leak on the resident’s service line.
Pennsylvania American Water encourages customers to eliminate sources of cold air near water lines and make sure the location of the main water shut off valve is known. Residents should also allow a small trickle of water to run overnight to keep pipes from freezing and also open cabinet doors to expose pipes to warmer room temperatures.
