The Freeport Area School Board has approved a preliminary 2016-17 budget that would increase taxes an average of 5 percent.
Since the district is situated in both Butler and Armstrong counties, there are different tax rates for the different municipalities. The proposed spending plan would increase taxes for Buffalo Township residents in Butler County by 7.9 mills, and increase taxes in Freeport and South Buffalo in Armstrong County by 2.4-mills.
According to district figures, the increase would mean an additional $161 for Buffalo Township homeowners.
The school board approved the proposed budget last week. It will be given final approval in early June.
